Jaunpils pils ir viena no retajām viduslaiku pilīm, kas lieliski saglabājusi savu sākotnējo izskatu. Jaunpils pils celta 1301. gadā kā Livonijas ordeņa cietoksnis. Pili cēlis Livonijas ordeņa mestrs Gotfrīds fon Roga. Vairāk nekā 350 gadus pilī valdīja fon der Reku (Recke) dzimta.
